How To Delete Your Netflix Viewing History
How to delete your Netflix viewing history? If you are interested in finding answers to this question just keep reading.
You might not realize it, but as you watch more and more of your favorite TV shows and movies on streaming services, you're actually giving away a lot of information about yourself.
This leads to Netflix "recommendations" (some of which are just plain nonsense) and your friends find out about your viewing habits if they ask to borrow your password.
I'm still traumatized by the time Netflix suggested Spongebob SquarePants to me, so obviously, their algorithms aren't perfect. Also, if your friends are watching things on your account, you'll get recommendations based on THEIR viewing habits.
For example, in the screenshot below, I only watched one of the three (Better Call Saul) and that was many years ago!
So the best thing to do is to clear your Netflix viewing history regularly. It will also stop the “Do you want to see that again?”
questions. You won't get personalized recommendations, but I'm sure you're capable of finding your own shows to watch, right?
Deleting your Netflix viewing history in several easy steps
It is not at all difficult to delete your Netflix viewing history. You just need to know where to look for the right settings.
Click here which will take you to your account settings. Of course, you will need to log in.
Scroll down the page until you see “Activity View”. Click on it. It should be noted that clicking Show Activity will only show you the activity of the currently active profile.
If you want to see the viewing history for a different profile, first click on the drop-down list at the top right and choose the desired profile.
Netflix will take you back to the home page. Then click the drop-down menu again and click Account.
The Viewing Activity page is divided into two sections: Everything You Watched and Everything You Rated. By clicking on the tabs at the top, you can switch between them.
Deleting data on Netflix is called “hiding”. So, to hide everything, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Hide All”. It will wipe it all away.
But not before you're asked if you're really sure you know what you're doing. So you have a chance to back off.
Deleting Individual Items in Viewing History.
If you're not going 'scorched earth' and only want to remove individual items, scroll down to the one you want to remove.
On the right side is a circle crossed by a diagonal line – click on it and the title of the show will disappear from the list. Please note that you will not be asked this time if you are sure, and there is no undo feature!
You will see a message telling you that the title will be deleted from your account within 24 hours. But every time I deleted titles, the change was immediate.
The final result.
What happens after all depends on how much of your viewing history you've cleared.
If you cleared everything, your recommendations will be reset, your place in shows (if you stopped halfway through) will be reset to the start, and you won't be asked if you want to watch anything again.
If you only removed one or two things, the changes I just mentioned will only apply to those hidden titles.
It's worth deleting them regularly, especially if other people are accessing your account. Otherwise, things get very complicated, very quickly.
